The Capital Math Collective aims to make DC a national leader in math by accelerating student growth through targeted interventions, stronger teacher content knowledge, and family partnerships, coordinated across DC Public Schools and public charters.
The Capital Math Collective is a public-private partnership to accelerate math outcomes for students across the District. Coordinated by the DC Public Education Fund, the DC Math Hub, and CitySchools Collaborative, and building on the work of the OSSE Math Task Force, this project focuses on boosting math achievement for students in Grades 3-8 across DC Public Schools (DCPS) and DC public charter schools. The Capital Math Collective advances Mayor Bowser’s commitment to academic recovery and excellence.
In the first two years of the Capital Math Collective, CitySchools Collaborative will reach more than 6,000 students with high-impact tutoring in math and will facilitate Math Acceleration Design Sprints to help school teams solve their most pressing math challenges.

This project brings educators, families, and leaders across DC’s public and charter schools together, uniting efforts across sectors with strong backing from local government, to take on this urgent issue through:
The Collective will equip more than 2,000 math teachers with training on innovative math practices and support over 700 educators in earning graduate-level credentials to deepen their expertise. Two new DCPS Math Centers will serve as hubs for professional learning, coaching, and student tutoring.
Tutoring has already proven its value for DC students. The Collective will provide more than 6,000 additional students with personalized, high-impact tutoring. Using real-time student data, the program will ensure that the students who need the most support receive it quickly, helping them build skills, confidence, and a sense of success in math.
The Collective will expand opportunities for families to engage with math learning, including citywide Math Nights that make math accessible and enjoyable, and the DC Math and STEM Fair, which celebrates student achievement and creativity.
Championed by Mayor Muriel Bowser, this project brings together schools and organizations Districtwide to position DC as a national leader in math excellence:
