STRENGTHENING THE FUTURE EDUCATOR WORKFORCE

Across the public education system, pipelines are strained by the quality and quantity of potential educators entering the workforce. The CitySchool Collaborative Tutor-to-Teacher program partners with schools and tutoring providers to build career pathways that support local tutors in becoming future classroom teachers, strengthening teacher pipelines and expanding workforce diversity across DC.

Tutor-to-Teacher

Launched in partnership with the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) and supported by the Center for Black Educator Development, the Tutor-to-Teacher program advances citywide efforts to recruit, develop, and retain a more representative teaching force for DC students. CSC’s Tutor-to-Teacher program supports current tutors and aspiring educators with targeted professional learning, personalized mentoring, and clear connections to teacher preparation programs.

With Tutor-to-Teacher, Tutors:

  • Participate in monthly learning sessions designed to equip them to be successful in future careers as teachers, teacher apprentices, or teacher residents.
  • Meet regularly with an experienced mentor and current teacher to receive guidance, insight, and inspiration to prepare for the teaching profession.
  • Receive additional support, including resume and job application help, with networking opportunities for future school-based roles.
